The Fatehgarh Sahib Rail Accident which occurred on the 2nd of December, 2000, left 40 people dead and about 135 people were injured. Mamata Banerjee arranged for ex- gratia cheques to be presented to the victim’s families and the families of those who were injured. Alamjit Singh was actively involved in making sure that each one got his due. As always he has sided with justice for the poor and afflicted.
